Comparison with Nikon and Canon lenses
As we have seen the retail price of this lens is $1199 on Amazon and BHPhoto which makes it quite an expensive lens. Consequently is it worth spending this amount of price on the TAMRON SP 24-70 f/2.8 Vi DC USD G2?

I have prepared a quick comparison with other manufacturers. The list contains the wast majority of 24-70 lenses that Nikon / Canon users would use. As you can see the price of the new Tamron SP 24-70 lens is only $100 more than the previous generation which I think is very good. Compared to Sigam, which we know is a direct competitor of Tamron, the price difference is $100 less for the Tamron. Although spec wise they are very similar, it seems that Tamron is trying to get ahead at the competition.
Compared to the Nikon and Canon lenses these we can see that Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens sells for $1,749 whereas the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR Lens has a price of $2,396.95. Making the math we can clearly see that the Tamron has an advantage. Its $600 less than the Canon and half the price of the Nikon. Consequently we can conclude that it is a bargain if the VR is an important factor. Neither is the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Lens cheaper which sells for $1,797.
Even though I did not have the possibility to compare these lenses on the field, from the specs the new TAMRON SP 24-70 f/2.8 Vi DC USD G2 promises quite a lot.
Final thoughts
I think that Tamron did a great job with the SP 24-70 f/2.8 Vi DC USD G2 lens. Sadly I couldn’t test this lens, so all the analysis is based on the specs of the manufacturers. Although I don’t own the previous generation of 24-70 lens only the 70-300 version, I can tell you that so far I was happy with TAMRON. I think that throughout the years this company gathered enough experience to keep the pace with the actual demands of the market. They are building themselves a name which more and more equals to quality. I invite you to share your personal opinion about TAMRON and whether the price of this lens makes it a good investment.
